Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the multi-purpose design use the same outlet for car tires and rafts?
No. Slime identifies separate high-pressure tire and high-volume inflatable paths. The manual says the high-volume path is for inflatables and cannot inflate tires or balls.
Explore this need in the finder →Can this configuration operate without an accessory outlet?
Yes. The exact page and manual specify a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery and USB-C charging. They do not document a 12V vehicle-power backup; the USB-A charging block is not included.
Explore this need in the finder →Does preset stopping apply to the high-volume hose?
No. The 40085 manual says the digital gauge and Inflate-Right target-stop function apply only to high-pressure use; the high-volume mode has no documented target-pressure stop.
Explore this need in the finder →The Slime Cordless Multi-Purpose Inflator, part 40085, is an internal-battery pump with two genuinely different air paths: a high-pressure hose for tires and balls, and a high-volume outlet for low-pressure inflatables such as rafts and mattresses. That split is more important than the broad “multi-purpose” label. Slime's manual gives the first outlet a 0.45 CFM flow claim at zero pressure and the second a 1.2 CFM claim at zero pressure, but neither figure is a measured flow at tire pressure. The manual's 0–99 PSI display scale is not a working-pressure rating or an accuracy guarantee.
Choose the outlet that matches the object
The high-pressure port uses the short, 2-foot quick-connect tire hose. It has a digital gauge and Inflate-Right, which stops the tire-mode inflation at the selected pressure. Slime's manual lists a six-minute example for a P195/65 R15 tire from 0 to 35 PSI; the product page describes the same general standard-car scenario. That is a manufacturer example, not a test by this site and not a promise for a different tire, starting pressure or temperature. The manual also lists three minutes for a twin air mattress, but that belongs to the high-volume path and should not be treated as a tire result.
For a raft, mattress or similar inflatable, the short high-volume hose connects to a separate outlet. This mode is low-pressure/high-volume operation. Slime's manual is explicit that it is not for tires or balls, which need higher pressure, and that the digital gauge and Inflate-Right stop do not operate in high-volume mode. A buyer who wants preset stopping on a tire can use the high-pressure arrangement; someone expecting an automatic pressure target on an airbed should not assume the feature carries across.
Battery freedom, with a charging routine
Inflation draws from the built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The reviewed 40085 page and manual do not document a vehicle-socket or direct-battery backup, and they do not state battery capacity or a vehicle-current draw. Slime includes a USB-A-to-USB-C charging cable but not the USB-A wall block. The manual estimates about four hours from a 2.1A USB source, says to recharge after use and every four months, and warns against charging from a computer USB port. Those instructions make this a carry-ready tool only if the owner keeps the battery maintained; the product page's battery-life language is a manufacturer claim, not a long-term storage test.
The feature set is more than a tire pump: the manual diagrams a ball needle and an inflatable adapter, the body has four bright LEDs, and the product page lists adapters for balls and other inflatables. Ball use belongs to the high-pressure side. That distinction matters because the included needle can serve a ball, but the raft/mattress hose cannot. The sources do not provide an accuracy tolerance for low-pressure ball readings or a safe pressure range, so use the ball maker's recommendation and remain present. The quick-connect tire head is a press-on lever style; the exact manual says to attach it and lift the green lever to lock. No Presta adapter is identified, so confirm a bicycle's valve and any needed conversion before relying on the general bicycle-use listing.
Heat, cooldown and supervision
The manual's operating boundary is concrete: do not run the inflator continuously for more than 10 minutes, allow approximately 25 minutes to cool between uses, keep the inlet and outlet clear, and do not leave the unit unattended. It warns about hot operation, asks for ventilation and cautions against running a vehicle in a confined garage. Those limits should govern a real task even though the page describes a stable base and a walk-away convenience. The tool's target stop is not a reason to leave it alone, and an idle display shutoff is different from stopping at a chosen tire pressure.
What it is—and is not—compared with other Slime cordless pumps
The 40085 is the more versatile choice on paper when the same kit must handle car-tire top-offs and separate airbed/raft inflation. The Cordless Tire Inflator 40084 is a simpler rechargeable tire arrangement with an analog dial and manual control, while the Cordless 3-in-1 40089 adds target stopping and a power-bank function but does not document a separate high-volume outlet. The Cordless Pro Power 40086 is a distinct larger-tire-oriented model with a 12V accessory backup and a long coiled extension hose. Their stated times come from different manufacturer examples, so they are not a controlled speed comparison. The 40085's tradeoffs are its short tire hose, no documented 12V backup, charging-block requirement and two-mode limitation on the gauge and target stop.
Assessment boundary
This is a source-based assessment, not a hands-on test. The exact Slime product page, its manufacturer product record, the part 40085 manual and its part-numbered image support the configuration and limitations described here. Before choosing an offer, verify part 40085, the charging cable and separate hose/adapter set, check the tire valve and hose reach, and follow the manual for the correct mode. The reviewed evidence does not establish a maximum working-pressure rating, gauge accuracy, the ability to inflate while charging, or a fill time for another tire or inflatable.
