Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the 40086 inflate a tire without connecting its 12V lead?
Yes. The manual identifies an internal rechargeable 11.1V lithium-ion battery and a detachable 12V cable as backup. Recharge through the included USB-A-to-USB-C cable; Slime says a 2.1A USB source takes about four hours and the USB-A wall block is not included. The manual lists three tires per charge as a manufacturer claim, not an independent or universal fill count.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I run the 40086 from a standard car accessory socket?
Only if the vehicle's 12V outlet is rated for at least 15A. Slime recommends that the engine be running while the 12V adapter is used and says not to start the vehicle with the inflator already plugged in. Work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area; do not treat the 15A plug fuse as a statement of operating current draw.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Inflate-Right make the 40086 safe for unattended inflation or every tire size?
No. The manual supports a selected-pressure stop, but still says not to leave the inflator unattended and limits continuous operation to 10 minutes followed by about 25 minutes of cooling. Its three-minute maker example applies to a standard P205/55R16 tire from 0 to 35 PSI; it gives no exact tire-size ceiling or gauge-accuracy tolerance.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the 40086 inflate a ball as well as a tire?
The exact page and manual show a multi-purpose adapter set that includes a ball needle, so a sports-ball route is documented. Use the needle on the high-pressure connection, follow the ball maker's pressure guidance and stay with the pump; the 0–99 PSI tire display does not establish ball-pressure accuracy. Check the exact accessory set in the offered package.
Explore this need in the finder →Slime's Cordless Pro Power Tire Inflator 40086 sits between a small battery-only inflator and a conventional 12V compressor: it has a built-in rechargeable battery, but also a detachable accessory-socket cable for when the battery is low. That flexibility is real, but the 12V alternative has a specific electrical condition. Slime's manual says the vehicle outlet must be rated for at least 15 amps; a familiar plug is not proof that the socket can supply that load. The manual's performance and operating limits matter more than the broad “Pro Power” name.
One pump, two power routes
The internal 11.1V lithium-ion battery is the default cordless route. The manual lists its capacity as 2,000 mAh and says the included USB-A-to-USB-C cable charges it from a 2.1A USB outlet in about four hours. A USB-A wall block is not included, and the manual says not to charge from a computer. Slime advises recharging after use and every four months; its claim that the battery holds charge for four months is not an independent storage test. The manual's “three car tires from flat to full” line is likewise a maker claim without a matched set of tire sizes and conditions.
The second route is a detachable 12V accessory-socket lead. The manual calls for an outlet rated at least 15A, gives the lead's plug a 15A fuse, and instructs that the engine should be running when using the 12V adapter. It also says not to start the vehicle with the inflator already plugged in. The fuse rating and outlet minimum are not a measured pump-current draw. If your vehicle manual does not establish a 15A outlet, don't assume this route is suitable.
Inflate-Right is a target stop, not permission to walk away
The digital gauge shows 0–99 PSI / 0–7 BAR and the manual explains how to choose a target pressure: set it, connect the head and start inflation; Inflate-Right stops the pump at that displayed target. That is materially different from the separate idle shutdown, which turns the display off after inactivity. But Slime gives no gauge-accuracy tolerance or maximum working-pressure rating, so the display range is not either one. Choose the vehicle maker's recommended cold pressure, keep watch, and don't use the target-stop feature to justify unattended operation.
Reach and workload claims have conditions
The manual lists a 2.5-foot main hose and a 14.8-foot coiled extension. For the 12V arrangement it reports a 27-foot total reach, including the power lead; that is a manufacturer reach figure, not necessarily a useful placement distance in every vehicle. It reports 1.0 CFM at 0 PSI, which is not the flow rate at tire pressure. The three-minute fill example is tied to a P205/55R16 standard tire from 0 to 35 PSI. Treat that as one specified manufacturer scenario, not a prediction for another size, starting pressure, temperature or battery state.
Slime markets the 40086 for larger tires found on trucks, vans and SUVs, but the reviewed manual and page do not give an exact maximum tire dimension or a matched larger-tire fill scenario. That makes the positioning a reason to investigate rather than proof of fit for every truck or off-road tire. Confirm the actual vehicle's required cold pressure and check whether the inflator's published operating limits suit the job.
Adapters, hose head and heat
The manual and page show a quick-connect tire head, a ball needle and other multipurpose adapters. The product record also tags bicycle use, but the sources do not name a Presta adapter or specify a bicycle-valve range. Verify the valve and loose adapters in the exact package. The 40086 is not the same as Slime's 40085 Cordless Multi-Purpose Inflator: 40085 has a separate low-pressure/high-volume outlet and no documented 12V backup, while the 40086 uses the high-pressure tire pump with backup power. For a ball, follow the ball manufacturer's pressure guidance; the tire display scale is not a ball-accuracy specification.
Also identify the hose lever you actually receive. Slime says some 40086 units have an older green lift-to-lock lever while newer ones have a black down-to-lock lever; the exact manual depicts pushing down to lock. The pressure head remains a press-on style, but the directions differ by head version. Inspect the hardware and follow its matching instructions rather than guessing.
The safety boundary is firm: do not run it continuously for more than 10 minutes; allow approximately 25 minutes to cool between uses; remain with the inflator; and keep the inlet and outlet clear. The manual warns about exhaust and calls for an outdoor or well-ventilated area. It specifically says not to use an older 8A lighter receptacle. The 12V route should not be used in a confined garage, even if a door is open.
Assessment and purchase checks
This is a source-based assessment, not a hands-on test. The exact Slime 40086 page, its product record, the part 40086 instruction manual and the exact page image support this review. Before choosing an offer, verify part 40086, the 12V cable and adapter set, the battery and USB-C charging cable, the 15A vehicle-outlet requirement if using socket power, and which lever style is supplied. Follow the vehicle placard and manual, stay present and respect the 10-minute/25-minute duty boundary. No price, independent fill test, outlet-current measurement or universal tire-fit claim is being made.
