A useful fit for

The documented 40076 is a compact 12V-socket model with a press-on high-pressure tire route, separate ball-adapter use and a separate high-volume inflatable hose. Its product record and page support passenger-car and bicycle uses.

The main tradeoff

The analog 0–60 dial and switch require manual monitoring; no target stop is documented. A 15A-minimum socket and attended ten-minute/25-minute run-cool schedule constrain use, and the high-volume hose cannot inflate tires or balls.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the 40076 run from its own battery?

No. The exact page and manual specify a 12V vehicle accessory outlet. The manual requires an outlet rated at least 15A and recommends the vehicle engine running; it does not document an internal battery or clamp-powered plan.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can I use the high-volume hose for a tire or sports ball?

No. The 40076 manual reserves the high-volume low-pressure hose for inflatables and says it cannot inflate tires or balls. Use its separate high-pressure hose for tires and the documented ball adapter route for sports balls.

Will the 40076 stop automatically at my chosen pressure?

No target-pressure stop is documented. Its dial reads to 60 PSI and the on/off switch is manual; remain present, follow the vehicle's recommended pressure and do not treat the gauge scale as a pressure rating or accuracy guarantee.

The Slime Multi-Purpose Inflator (part 40076) is a socket-powered pump built around two different jobs: a high-pressure hose for tires and a high-volume line for rafts, mattresses and similar inflatables. The distinction matters more than the word “multi-purpose.” Its 12V supply and analog gauge make it a simple manual-control arrangement, not a cordless preset-stop inflator. I reviewed the exact product page, product record and part-specific manual; this assessment does not claim hands-on use or independent performance testing.

Start with the outlet and the reach

The exact manual specifies a 12V accessory outlet rated for at least 15A. It recommends running the vehicle while using the pump and warns against starting the vehicle while the inflator is plugged into the DC outlet. That outlet minimum is not a measured pump-current figure, and the 15A marking on a plug should not be treated as a current-draw specification. Check the vehicle's own socket instructions, use the Slime manual's connection sequence and avoid an older 8A lighter receptacle.

Slime lists a 9.2-foot power lead and 10.7 feet of total reach for the high-pressure hose. The high-volume setup is listed at 10.2 feet. Those totals help plan the outlet-to-wheel path, but a reach figure does not guarantee that a particular vehicle can be reached without stretching, pinching or routing a hose across a hazard. The published body image shows the pump, dial, stored hose, plug and work lights; it does not inventory each loose adapter.

Two air paths are not interchangeable

The manual describes the high-pressure hose for tires. The product record and exact page identify car and bicycle use, with the page gallery illustrating a bicycle; the product also has a quick-connect press-on tire head. No Presta adapter or bicycle pressure range is established. If a bicycle valve is not Schrader, check the exact supplied package and valve procedure rather than assuming the gallery image proves universal valve fit.

The second hose is for high-volume, low-pressure inflatables. Slime lists 1.3 CFM at zero pressure for that route, versus 0.7 CFM at zero pressure for the high-pressure hose. The manual specifically says the high-volume path cannot inflate tires or balls. For sports balls, the product page lists adapters for balls and shows ball use, so keep that task on the high-pressure route with the ball adapter. No ball-pressure range or low-pressure accuracy is given; follow the ball maker's limit and stay with the pump.

That separation also means that the more favorable-looking high-volume CFM number does not predict tire speed. Both figures are at zero pressure and refer to different outlets and loads. The manual's maker example is eight minutes for a standard P205/55R16 tire from 0 to 35 PSI; its mattress example is three minutes for a twin air mattress. These are specified scenarios from Slime, not results from this review or guarantees for another tire or inflatable.

Manual pressure control and a real duty limit

The analog gauge is marked from 0 to 60 PSI, but Slime does not publish a maximum working-pressure rating or an accuracy tolerance for this model. The manual depicts an on/off switch, not a user-set target-pressure stop. Stay present, check the cold pressure recommendation on the vehicle placard or in its owner's information and verify pressure with a suitable gauge when the difference matters. The display scale is not permission to inflate any tire to 60 PSI.

The same manual sets a ten-minute continuous-use ceiling and about 25 minutes of cooling between uses, says not to leave the unit unattended and cautions against blocking the intake or outlet. The practical workload is therefore a supervised, bounded inflation task rather than an automatic “set it and walk away” cycle. If a task depends on preset stopping, unattended operation, repeated multi-tire service or a known high-pressure flow curve, the exact sources do not establish this as a fit.

How it differs from Slime's 40034

The nearby Multi-Purpose Tire Inflator 40034 is a separate configuration, not another label for this unit. Its manual lists 0.5 CFM at zero pressure for the high-pressure hose and 2.0 CFM for its high-volume hose, with 12.3 feet of tire reach and a dedicated deflate port. The 40076 instead lists 0.7 and 1.3 CFM, with 10.7 feet of tire reach. Both manuals describe the same eight-minute P205/55R16 0–35 PSI and three-minute twin-mattress maker examples, plus the same basic ten-minute/25-minute run-cool boundary. Those numbers do not form a controlled head-to-head speed test; the meaningful comparison is the exact reach, high-volume and deflation arrangement you need.

Who this setup suits

Consider the 40076 if a compatible 12V socket is available, manual pressure monitoring is acceptable, and the separate high-volume inflatable hose is useful. It can support car and bicycle tire plans and a high-pressure ball-adapter plan, but it is not a battery, clamp or seven-way-trailer model and it does not document selected-pressure auto-stop. Before use, confirm the exact 40076 package, the port rating and the lock direction for the physical head: the current product page describes black down-to-lock and older green lift-to-lock versions, while the manual illustration does not identify which colored head it depicts.
