Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the TLC PRO stop my tire at a preset pressure?
No. Its compressor stops when the reservoir reaches max pressure, but the TLC gun uses a hand trigger and bleeder to control a tire; the manual does not document a user-selected tire target stop.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the same 42046 kit serve a Presta bicycle and a vehicle tire?
The page and manual list vehicle and bicycle use, a separate rebuildable Presta head and a 90-degree twist-on Schrader attachment. They are distinct supplied valve paths; confirm the exact attachment needed for each wheel.
Explore this need in the finder →What power and cooling limits should I plan for?
The exact manual lists 30A draw and a recommended 40A fuse, tells the operator to run the vehicle engine, and rates duty at 33% at 100 PSI/72°F (20 minutes on, 40 off in the manual table).
Explore this need in the finder →The VIAIR TLC PRO, part 42046, is a compact 12-volt compressor kit built around a tank, a long coiled hose and a separate handheld tire inflator. Its best-documented distinction from the lighter TLC PLUS is the higher 150-PSI working-pressure ceiling and 33%-at-100-PSI duty rating. Those numbers may matter for the intended tire and bike routine, but they do not make the PRO an automatic tire-pressure-stop inflator or prove a particular vehicle tire will fill in a given time.
A multi-piece kit, not a cordless pump
The manufacturer identifies part 42046 and lists the compressor, 0.25-gallon aluminum reservoir, 30-foot braided coil hose, 160-PSI shop-style trigger inflator, blow gun, Presta head, 90-degree twist-on Schrader attachment, inflation tips, replacement filter elements, and both battery clips and terminal-ring attachments. It also includes a carry bag and mounting tray. The supplied routes are direct 12-volt battery connections; this is not a plug-in accessory-socket or rechargeable-battery model.
The 42046 manual says to run the vehicle engine during operation to support current supply and reduce battery drain. It lists 30 amps maximum draw and a recommended 40-amp fuse. The source also gives an 8-foot compressor power lead. Buyers should verify the vehicle-side circuit, the installation location and clearance, and whether they plan to use the removable clips or fit the terminal-ring leads. The 11.8-pound weight and roughly 10.87-by-5.83-by-7.48-inch product-page dimensions are part of the portability decision; this kit is substantially more involved than a handheld battery inflator.
Strong bike and vehicle versatility, with manual control
VIAIR describes the TLC PRO for a car, van or truck and positions the kit for bicycle tubeless setup as well as vehicle tires. Its separate 90-degree twist-on Schrader head and rebuildable Presta head provide distinct valve paths. The tire gun uses a trigger to admit air and a bleeder to release it; to read the tire pressure, the manual tells the operator to release the trigger or bleeder and allow the gauge needle to settle. That is manual, attended control. The compressor’s own switch stops it when the reservoir reaches its maximum pressure, which is not the same as stopping a tire at a user-entered target.
The page lists 150 PSI as maximum working pressure, while the supplied tire-gun gauge has a 160-PSI scale. A larger gauge scale does not raise the compressor’s 150-PSI limit or establish that a tire should be filled to that pressure. Follow the vehicle placard or bicycle-tire instructions and the attachment’s limits. Manufacturer fill-rate headings appear on the product page, but the reviewed page/manual materials do not provide a reliable numeric 42046 vehicle-tire fill result or a tire-size capacity that can be carried into a fit claim here.
Duty cycle and cooling matter
The 42046 manual specifies 33% duty at 100 PSI and its duty table expresses that as 20 minutes on and 40 minutes off in an hour at the stated condition. Treat this as a limit under a defined pressure and ambient context, not a general promise that the compressor can run for a third of every task. Tire pressure, repeated use, ambient heat and cooling intervals affect the real routine. The manual says the unit becomes very hot, requires ventilation, should not be left unattended, and has a thermal protector that can reset automatically; it also says to cut off power when that protection activates.
The manual describes the compressor as moisture- and dust-resistant but not dirt- or waterproof, and cautions against exposing a hard-mounted unit to the elements. Its tank and hose need to be depressurized after use. The close-ended coupler on the TLC inflator is also purpose-built; VIAIR warns against using that attachment with regular portable compressors that expect an open-ended chuck. The PRO’s specific hose/gun pairing should not be casually mixed with another compressor’s fittings.
How it differs from TLC PLUS
The TLC PLUS is the closer comparison for a rider or vehicle owner who likes the same clamp-powered, twist-on Schrader and Presta package but does not need the PRO’s pressure ceiling. The PLUS is rated to 120 PSI and 23 amps; the PRO is rated to 150 PSI and 30 amps. The product-page duty entries also differ: 30 minutes at 30 PSI for the PLUS versus 33% at 100 PSI for the PRO. The conditions are not directly interchangeable, and neither spec predicts your own tire fill time. Compare the actual tire’s required pressure, available power circuit, kit dimensions and expected cooling routine before deciding that the higher model number is an advantage.
Part 42046 is a considered option for someone who wants a complete battery-powered air kit with cycling and vehicle attachments, accepts manual pressure control and can accommodate the current/fuse requirements. It is a poor fit for a user who needs preset auto-stop, a light carry-around inflator, socket power or a published tire-size guarantee. Check that the offer is TLC PRO / 42046 and that the package includes the intended Presta head, Schrader attachment, hose and battery-power pieces.
